Hello foodies! If you are regular readers here at kamalkitchen.com, you know I have talked a lot about the Asus Zenfone 2. I finally got my hands on the Laser and took it for a ride. And what a happening ride it was.
In my earlier post about the Zenfone 2, I had explained how it is great for food photography. The 13 MP camera, F 2.0 aperture, manual settings – all give you great photos so that you don’t have to lug a SLR around. But then, some of you wanted a mobile camera that did the work for you.
“All I care about is I can click a plate of food before everyone gobbles it up. It has to be good enough to post on Facebook or Instagram, and share with friends. I don’t have time to fiddle with the settings.” You said. So OK, I get it. You may be a foodie but you don’t have to be a food blogger. All you want is an Auto Focus that is intuitive enough to get you a good photo. So low light in restaurants, or al fresco dinners, the phone should decide what needs to be done and just do it.
Now that might sound like too much for an humble mobile phone, but I decided to give it a test. And honestly, there are times when even I don’t have time to do any fancy food staging or food styling. I just want to take a quick snap of my evening snack, or just take simple photos that may or may not end up in a blog post.
So here is what I decided to test – I would take photos without making any changes whatsoever! I wanted to let the ‘Auto’ mode in the Asus Zenfone Laser 2 do the talking.
Right away, I was impressed with how fast the lens auto focused. If there was low light, the photo was immediately back lit. I could just tap the screen to choose where to focus. And the 5.5 inch display is large enough that I could see my ‘subject’, or the item I wanted to photograph without straining my eyes.
So here are some food photos taken with the Laser. If you want to dig deeper into the settings, you can refer to my posts here and here. But if you want your casual, fuss free efforts to give great results, I will let these photos speak for themselves.
So what do you think? I think these are pretty good enough to post on Instagram or Zomato or the latest social network around the corner. If you are impressed, even a tiny bit, check out this reasonably priced mobile phone for yourself.
Happy Clicking!
P.S. Just discovered that the Zenfone 2 Laser has this cool way of naming files. So if you are taking the same photo using multiple modes, no need to fret. Low Light is labeled ‘LL’, Night Mode is “NT’ and so on. This makes it super easy to spot the differences.
P.P.S. What mobile phone accessory is more critical than a selfie stick? A power bank! Power banks have saved the day for me, especially while attending day long events like #BNLF. Only catch is, you gotta remember to keep it charged! LOL.
Don’t forget to leave a comment below. And here’s one more photo to drool on before I finally sign off.
